Pattern Testing

Testing a sewing pattern is one of the most critical parts of design. It’s the first time that I will be sharing it with others and that’s also when I will know how well it is received by fellow sewists!

Testing is so important, so your role is not just to sew, but to report on anything that you think could be improved, from clarity of instructions, to fit, complexity of garment etc.

I’m always looking for more people to join my pattern testing group. So if you are interested, please sign in to the newsletter and you will receive information about a new pattern first! Don’t worry, I don’t send newsletters every day, I’m only a one woman show!

Here are a few questions that you might want answered:

What will I receive?

After receiving the newsletter, you will be able to fill a form to register your interest. If you are selected, I will let you know by mail. You will receive the files in your inbox, which will comprise of the A4 pattern tiles, the A0 file and the instructions, all as separate pdfs.

What if I’m a beginner?

I’m looking for all levels of experience, so don’t hesitate to register, even if you are just beginning. I try to develop patterns with a variety of difficulty, so even if one is hard for you, the next one light just be right! It’s also very valuable to know how well a beginner understands the instructions, and if some more details could be added.

How much time do I get to test the pattern?

Once the pattern is sent to you, you will usually have two weeks to make it. If a pattern is more complex, more time will be given. The date will be clearly stated in the newsletter, so you can decide if you can meet the deadline.

How should I send feedback?

For photos of your finished garment, I would need to see it as a flat-lay as well as fitted on the child, so I can check the fit. These should be sent in an email at pascaline@pompomdumonde.com

You will be able to send written feedback using a form.

What fabric should I use?

As this is not the final phase, I recommend that you use a cheap fabric with a similar weight to test the pattern. I don’t want you to use an expensive fabric if we find some errors in the pattern! If you find that the fit if just right for you, you can use your nice fabric next!

Will I get paid for testing?

At the moment, pattern testers are not paid as I do not have the funds to do so. If this becomes possible in the future, I will. Once the testing phase is complete and the pattern is released, you will receive all the final files for the pattern that you have tested.
