Introducing: Orion shirt sewing pattern
At long last, my second sewing pattern is now available and it’s the best friend for the Albus trousers. The Orion shirt is a dreamy sewing pattern. It has all the features that you would hope on a shirt but with a touch of delicacy.
The Orion shirt features a gathered back yoke, a thin flat collar, buttoned cuffs and a curved hem. But don’t be scared by all these details! The pattern is detailed with lots of illustrations and will guide you through every step.
What level of sewing do I need?
This pattern is more complicated to make than the Albus trousers, so I would recommend it to intermediate sewists. However, if you are adventurous and want to be challenged, a confident beginner will also be able to make it.
What will I learn to make?
The Orion shirt will guide you to make:
Gathers
Yoke piecing
Set-in sleeves
Buttoned cuffs
Flat collar
Buttonholes
Hand-rolled hem
Two pattern options
The Orion shirt can be made with either short or long sleeves.
What sizes can I make and how much fabric is needed?
Orion comes in sizes 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 months, 2, 3 and 4 years. For fabric requirements, please follow this chart:
How long will I need to make it?
Once your pattern is printed and the pieces cut, you will need about 5 hours to make it. This takes into account hand-finishing the inside of the cuffs as well as the binding on the collar.
What type of fabric can I use?
Because of the gathers, I advise to use shirt-weight fabrics such as cotton voile, lawn, shirting, some lighter poplins, double gauze, linen. Flannel may also be used on colder weather, but consider that it will be harder to gather thicker fabrics.
